Science fiction predictions such as the Cybermen from Doctor Who Rise of the Cybermen, Doctor Who The Age of Steel, and the Borg from Star Trek First Contact, are becoming reality according to the PBS show The 22nd Century.
They call it “the world wide mind”. A way of connecting to the internet by a direct connection to your brain. It has the potential to connect everyone in a new and better way. However it also has potential for humanity to loose it’s individuality, and freedom. The 22nd Century has all ready admitted that the National Security Agency (NSA) has shown interest in this technology. Possibly for control of mass populations in time of distrust of the government. A flick of a switch and a mass of protesters will simply loose their outrage and go home, with the general public non the wiser.
Who controls this technology and how it will be used should be decided before it is decided by the wrong people.
